Thank you for your interest in living kidney donation.
Most of us are born with two kidneys. However, a healthy person can live a normal, healthy life with just one kidney. This means that a healthy person can give (donate) a kidney to someone whose kidneys aren’t working. This gift is living kidney donation.

•Thank you for your interest in becoming a potential living kidney donor. This is a very generous and thoughtful act.
•The living kidney donor team will support you during each step of your donor journey.
•You will be assigned a living kidney donor nurse coordinator at the beginning of your evaluation process.
Points to Consider about the Evaluation Process
-
Each donor progresses through the phases of evaluation at their own pace.
-
An average evaluation can take two to four months without interruptions or complications.
-
Our program cannot pressure donors to complete testing and will only proceed with those donors who actively participate in their evaluations.
-
This means that the donor initiates contact with the donor program or nurse coordinator throughout most of the evaluation process.
-
Donors may pause and resume their work-up if needed.
-
Donors may withdraw from the work-up at ANY time.
Advantages of Kidney Donation
Time to plan for both the donor and the recipient.
Recipients often spend less time on the deceased donor waiting list.
Recipients can receive their transplant before starting dialysis.
Recipients who receive a kidney from a live donor generally have longer organ survival rates.
